Year 5 Exceptional Home Learning

Video Messages from your Teachers!

 

Click on the links below to go to our Deanesfield YouTube channel, where you can see weekly videos from your teachers, as well as exciting activities and challenges from school staff that you can try whilst you're at home.

 

Don't forget, you can subscribe to channel to get alerts whenever new videos are uploaded.

For Year 5, the majority of suggested home learning activities can be found by logging into Google Classroom. Please see the 'Exceptional Home Learning' page under the 'Year Group Pages' tab for log-in instructions.

We encourage you and your children to come up with a timetable together which will suit your daily life, but if you would like support in timetabling your child’s learning day, here is a suggested timetable.

 

  • 9:00 - 9:30 - PE (try to get your pulse rate up)
  • 9:30 - 10:00 - Reading
  • 10:00 - 10:30 -  Spelling 
  • 10:30 - 11:00 - Break
  • 11:00 - 11:30 - Writing
  • 11:30 - 12:00 - PSHE/mindfulness
  • 12:00 - 13:00 - Lunch 
  • 13:00 - 14:00 - Science/Topic
  • 14:00 - 14:20 - Break
  • 14:20 - 15:00 - Maths

Please find below some further suggested activities that children in Year 5 may like to do whilst they are at home this week.

Check your google classroom for daily English, Maths and Topic tasks if you can access a computer/tablet to work on.

 

Also use your Mathletics, Reading Eggspress and Times Table Rockstars for a short while every day.

 

Check the weekly bingo task sheet below and tick them off as you complete them.

 

Some tips for independent learning from home:

Create a learning den and play ‘schools’ as you work. Remember to have regular breaks from your learning. Drink lots of water to help you focus. Think about how you can solve any problems you come across when learning.

 

Have fun with your learning.

Year 5 - Weekly Bingo Tasks

 

Writing

Write a narrative about anything you like!

 

You could write a small part every day this week.

Write a blog about all the things you have been doing to keep occupied this week.

 

Reading

Imagine you were interviewing the author of a book.

 

What questions would you ask?

Read a fiction book (from home or on Readings Eggs).

 

Write down 5 new words you learnt from it.

Spelling

Play hangman with a family member with your Year 5/6 words.

Choose 20 of the Year 5 words and write a crazy story using them.

Maths

Practise chanting your times tables - can you learn them all off by heart?

Create a Maths dictionary with some Year 5 Maths vocabulary.

Science

Space Observations.

 

Look outside your bedroom window each night and make a note of all the different stars you see.

 

What shape is the moon?

Topic (Geography & Art)

Write a timeline of all the important British History events that have happened in your lifetime, e.g. prime ministers, Royal weddings etc.

Can you create a musical instrument?

 

Use items from your house and make some sounds!

P.E.

Choose your favourite Joe Wicks exercises and practise them.

 

Can you teach them to a family member?

 

Remember to make sure they warm up before they start and cool down when they have finished.

Make your own sport or game and teach a family member how to play.

PSHE

Create a 'Be Kind' plan.

 

Choose one act of kindness for every day this week.

 

Don't tell anyone in your family you are doing it and see if they notice the acts!

Spend some time writing a list of everything you are thankful for.
