Deanesfield Primary School

Dream, Believe, Achieve... And Make A Difference!

Welcome to Year 3 - September 2019

When you come back to school, you will be in Key Stage 2!

To prepare for the exciting curriculum that will be covered in Year 3, we have given you some suggestions for activities that could be done with your family over the summer holidays. These activities are optional but enjoyable and fun if you able to do them!

Visit your local library and read as many books as you can! Dick King-Smith is an author we study; why not get a head start and read one of his books.

Who is your favourite character and why? Draw a picture of this character and write why you like them. Perhaps you can even dress as them and take a picture! This way, we can decorate our book corners with pictures of YOU!

In Year 3, you will learn your times tables and associated division facts. Can you get a head start by practising over the holidays?

What time is it Year 3? This year, you will be extending your time telling knowledge.

  • Can you practice reading an analogue clock for vital timings like lunchtime, dinnertime and bedtime?
  • Can you solve problems involving time and duration.

Also, all around us there are numbers. What is the most interesting thing that you noticed about them?

You may be going away on holiday or just going away for day trips. While you are away, can you keep a diary of what you have done including your favourite part and any funny moments?

You can look for a postcard, take a photograph of yourself or buy yourself a souvenir and share it with us at the beginning of next term.

In Year 3, we will be learning about Ancient Civilisations, including the Stone Age, Iron Age, Mayans and the Egyptians

Find out fun facts about life in these times and create a bright, bold poster showcasing all of your research.

How independent are you? Think of all the things that you do and make a long list. Tick the ones that you think will help you now that you are in Year 3. For example, being able to organise all your belongings by yourself!

As we are an UNICEF Rights Respecting School, can you spot the ways in which you are respecting the Articles?

We hope you have a wonderful Summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you return to School on:
