Year 2 Home Learning Explanations (W.B. 11/5/20)

We hope you've been enjoying the home learning activities this week and have tried your best (even on the tricky tasks)! Mrs Lo Cascio and Miss Cachra talk them.

Here are a list of suggested activities to get you started in your home learning this week.

Our theme of the week: Transport!

  • Research and write an information page on different types of transport.
  • Write your own shape poem about a mode of transport.
  • Make a tally chart of the different modes of transport you see passing your window or when you’re out on your daily walk.
  • Use your tally chart to make a pictogram or block diagram. Write some questions you could ask about your data. E.g. How many more cars than bikes were seen?
  • Find out how cars have changed over time. Can you make a car timeline?
  • Design a new form of transport for the future, make it as spectacular as you can!
  • Write an advert for your new form of transport. Use persuasive words to encourage people to buy it.
  • Make a model of a form of transport from recyclable materials (e.g. hot air balloon, car, bicycle, train).
  • Make a transport themed board game.
  • Research forms of transport from around the world. Draw a picture and write a paragraph about what you have learnt.
  • Draw and label parts of a car.
  • Plan a new route in your local area for you to cycle, scooter or walk.
  • Practice telling the time using o’clock and half past. Can you learn quarter past and quarter to the hour?
  • Find out the names of different forms of transport in Spanish. Use actions to help you remember them.

Computing home learning:

This week I would like you to use https://www.j2e.com/jit5 to make a picture with a sentence. Simply click on the link (works on phones, computers, tablets etc) and choose a background. Then write a sentence to describe the background. Have fun doing it!

Religious Education (R.E.) home learning:

This term in RE we are looking at celebrations or Religious Festivals. Many celebrations happen once a year but in the Jewish religion, families celebrate every week with a special meal. The Sabbath or Shabbat (the Hebrew word for ‘Sabbath’) is the seventh day of the week. The Sabbath begins at sunset on Friday and lasts until nightfall on Saturday. Watch this short video and write (or draw) a list of ways that the two girls prepare for Shabbat. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zs2hyrd

Music home learning:

Have a go at performing some rhythms at home using "FOUND SOUNDS". Watch this video for the full explanation: https://youtu.be/IkSTLOlAPlk
