  • Key Stage 1 (KS1) & Key Stage 2 (KS2) Achievement Overview

    Attainment at Deanesfield Primary School

This is a summary of the achievements of our superb pupils at Deanesfield who continue to make us feel very proud of them. We have a talented team of teachers, support staff and school leaders who are dedicated to ensuring a rounded and creative education for our pupils as well as ensuring their academic success across the school, whatever their starting points. This would not be possible without the fantastic support of so many of our parents and carers.

    Attainment and Progress Measures

Pupils at the end of Key Stage 1 and 2 are assessed using a national standard called the Expected Standard, as well as a standard to identify those working at beyond expectations, called Greater Depth. Our attainment summaries below will show the percentages of our pupils who met these standards as well as the national average for each subject.

    Key Stage 1 Attainment Summary

Our pupils in Key Stage 1 have achieved high standards across the curriculum, building on the good progress pupils make in our Foundation Stage from their on-entry starting points. In 2024, there were no longer Statutory Assessment Processes at the end of Key Stage 1.

    Year 1 Phonics

The phonics screening check was introduced in 2012 to measure how well pupils can decode words using their phonetic knowledge. Since the check was introduced, our pupils in Year 1 have continued to strengthen their performance in phonics and reading. Our pupils have achieved well above the national average since the check was first introduced.

    Year 4 Multiplication Check MTC

The Multiplication Check (MTC) was introduced in 2022 for children in Year 4, to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables (up to 12 x 12) fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. The assessment is online and compromises of 25 questions. Our pupils have achieved well above the national average since the check was first introduced.

    Key Stage 2 Attainment Summary

The government did not publish Key Stage 2 data for 2021-22, as the assessments for Key Stage 2 returned for the first time since 2019, without adaptations due to the impact of COVID. We have however, made this data available. We are proud of our pupils in Key Stage 2 who consistently, across a 3-year trend, achieve standards above the national average at the Expected Standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. These achievements build on the good progress pupils make in Key Stage 1 and our Foundation Stage from their on-entry starting points. We pride ourselves on pupils consistently making progress from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. This is testimony to the hard work and dedication of pupils, staff and parents to enable accelerated progress to be made across Key Stage 2.

Tracking Progress from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2

Whilst our children achieved fantastic outcomes, there are no progress measures from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 in 2024 and 2025 as nationally there were no Statutory Assessment Processes at the end of Key Stage 1 for this cohort, due to the COVID pandemic.
