June 2017 - The Year 5 residential trip to Harrow House in Swanage is taking place this week. You can view photographs and news of their visit on our Gallery Page by clicking here.
We have had a very exciting and busy term Spring Term in Year 5.
This term we have enjoyed learning about The Highwayman in our topic and in literacy. We enjoyed acting out and investigating the story of The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes and empathising with the characters. We have written newspaper reports on the death of Bess, the landlord’s daughter and drawn some images from the book using charcoal and chalk.
In the second part of the term, we have researched old and new fairground rides and compared the similarities and differences between them. We used this research to help us design and make our own fairground rides using motors, axles and cogs. It was quite tricky to get them working successfully, but we didn’t give up.
5B and 5O have now both experienced Forest School in our wildlife area. They have worked in teams to create outdoor art, built dens, learnt and used knots and cooked on fires. They have also explored the flora and fauna in the grounds and newly dug pond. It is very exciting to see the wildlife area change through the seasons and spot signs of the wildlife that inhabits the area.
